Ahhh, February – the month of love, chocolate, and flowers. Emphasis on the chocolate.
Whether you’ve got a romantic date planned with your boo, or have a fun night out on the town planned with your girlfriends, we’ve got three cute and easy date night hairstyles lined up for you. In today’s blog post, we’ve teamed up with our ever-so-beautiful friend, Karin, to show you three date night staple hairstyles you need to try out this Valentine’s Day.
Big, sexy waves
Stacked side braid
Interested in learning how to create one, or maybe all of these beautiful and easy hairstyles? Watch the tutorial below or keep scrolling for a step-by-step guide.
Big, Sexy Waves
What you’ll need:
Clip-in hair extensions (optional)
1. Clip in your hair extensions (not sure how? Don’t fret, girl – we’ve got you. Here’s a step-by-step tutorial). Karin is wearing her 20″ 220g Dirty Blonde Luxies to achieve more volume and length for this look. Although this step is totally optional, it is highly recommended in order to really achieve those va-va-voom big, sexy, voluminous waves.
2. Take your beloved curling iron and start curling one side of your hair in small chunks. We recommend to curl away from your face as it helps create a more natural look.
3. Once you’re finished curling a section, pull on the curl in order to help loosen the hair – we don’t want tight pageant curls tonight, ladies.
4. Don’t forget the other side! Repeat instructions until every piece is fully curled.
5. Run your fingers through your curls to break and loosen them up.
6. Grab your hairspray, stretch your arm out and spray. We don’t want crunchy curls on date night, so distance is key. You want to spray just enough product so that your curls stay in place all night.
Voila, beautiful! You’re all done. And we must say – you look lovely.
Stacked Side Braid
What you’ll need:
Clip-in hair extensions (optional)
A couple of clear hair elastics
One bobby pin
1. Clip in your hair extensions. Again, this step is totally optional but it gives you more hair to work with so you can achieve a more voluminous braid. Interested in checking out our collection? Click here.
2. Bring all of your hair to one side of your face, and take a small chunk of hair and put it aside for now. We’ll get back to that one later.
3. Braid your hair in a regular three-stand braid and secure the end with a clear hair elastic.
4. Your braid should be fairly tight right now, but we want to loosen it up. Pull on the hair to fan it out.
5. Remember that chunk of hair we put aside? We’re going to bring that one back in the picture to finalize the look. Braid the hair in another regular three strand braid, and tie the two braids together at the very ends with another clear hair elastic.
6. Take a bobby pin and pin the two braids together towards the top, so they both remain secured in place.
And there you have it – our stacked braid! Looks super intricate, but only involves two easy three strand braids. Trick your date this Valentine’s Day into believing you’re a braid genius *wink*.
What you’ll need:
Clip-in hair extensions (optional)
A few bobby pins
1. Clip in your hair extensions upside down (so that it pulls into an updo easier). Have we mentioned this step is optional? We personally love to clip in a few wefts when creating a bun or updo look, as it gives you so much more hair to work with. Want to see some examples? Click here.
2. Gather your hair and tie it up in a high ponytail and brush it out.
3. Gently twist your hair around the base to create a bun and secure it in place with a few bobby pins.
4. Spray hairspray to ensure any fly-aways remain in place and to hold your bun together.
Andddd you’re done! It was easy as that, and girl – you look GOOD.
Those are our top 3 go-to beautiful and easy date night hairstyles. Which look did you rock on date night – 1, 2, or 3? Let us know in the comments below!
Valentine’s day. Some of us may believe that it’s an overly commercialized holiday. But some of us are hopeless romantics, who absolutely ADORE the idea of Valentine’s day and everything it stands for.
As for us? We love love. We love celebrating love. We love giving love. We love doing it every day. And since we are firm believers that we don’t need a certain date a year to do all this, Valentine’s day becomes simply an occasion to dress up and glam up 🙂
In this post, we’ve compiled 9 of our favorite hairstyles you can rock on Valentine’s day. Scroll down for video tutorials on how to recreate these beautiful and romantic yet easy hairstyles!
1. The Heart Bun
Seriously… a heart in your hair for Valentine’s day? How perfect is this? This hairstyle is super unique and creative. Give it a try! Mimi is wearing her clip-in Ombre Blonde Luxy Hair extensions to add that gorgeous balayage dimension in the hair.
2. Romantic Date Night Hair
This look is very romantic and feminine, perfect for a date night. Throw on a lovely dress and you’re ready to go, beautiful!
STUNNING. This looks so complicated but really is as simple as 1 braid and 2 twists. Alex clips in her Ash Blonde Luxy Hair extensions to create extra volume in this gorgeous bun (but you can totally do it without the extensions, too).
5. Valentine’s Inspired Hairdo
Tease a little, curl a little, and you’re left with a stunning hairstyle that is gorgeous and fitting for the event! Love it.
Ok ok, so other than the fact that this is a Christmas theme (*secretly jams to the Christmas song*), this hairstyle is just GORGEOUS for any occasion, especially Valentine’s day. Swap up the accessory and you’re as good as new!
Have you ever gone into a hair salon with a photo of your favorite celebrity and asked for their exact haircut, only to leave the salon wondering why those bangs that looked so beautiful on Gigi Hadid just don’t give your own face that certain “Je ne sais quoi”??
Well, dear friends, it’s not just because Gigi has a team of stylists at her beck and call, it’s probably because bangs just don’t suit your face shape…and that’s okay! We’re here to help you figure out the best hairstyles for your face shape, so you can rock runway worthy ‘dos everyday even without your own personal hair stylist.
Determining your face shape
At this point you may be asking, ‘but what is my face shape?!’ The most common mistake most people make when trying to determine their face shape is thinking that their faces are simply round. If I asked you to draw a picture of a face right now, the shape of the face will likely be either round or oval, but there’s so much more to it than that. When determining your face shape, you should be looking at your hairline, width and length of your face, and jawline.
The easiest way to know what facial shape you are is to pull your hair back, take an eyeliner or lip pencil, look in the mirror, and trace the outline of your face. Then, compare the outline with the handy guide below. (Bonus points if you leave the outline of your face on your mirror to scare your friends.)
Best Hairstyles For Oval Faces
A face shape is considered oval if the length is longer than the width, and the jawline is only slightly narrower than the hairline, which is gently rounded. An oval face shape has no prominent points. Some celebs you may recognize with an oval face include Jessica Alba, Rihanna, and Bella Hadid.
If you have an oval face shape, you’re in luck! This shape is considered to be most versatile for hairstyles, as it is usually quite well-balanced and evenly proportioned, so feel free to experiment.
Dos: Try out that RiRi pixie cut, take a risk with bangs, layer up your hair, or rock a middle part. The best hairstyles for oval faces include styles that keep your hair away from your face, exposing your best features. Side-swept bangs also look great on those with oval faces to frame your face as well as high-fashion, slicked-back looks, like the one below. Updos are super easy to create on oval shaped faces, as you do not need to overcompensate a certain side or think too hard about softening certain features.
Don’ts: When styling an oval face shape, try to keep the face as clear as possible. Steer clear of heavy bangs, as this could make your face appear shorter, and avoid hairstyles that are one length, as this could make your face appear longer. If you’re wearing your hair down, be sure to have either one or both sides tucked behind your ear showing off your cheekbones and beautiful face shape.
Best Hairstyles for Heart Shaped Faces
Just like a heart that you would draw out, a heart shaped face is wider at the hairline and temples and tapers to a small, narrow chin, that is slightly pointed. Your forehead may be a prominent feature usually, if you have a heart shaped face, you probably also have killer cheekbones. Yay! Think Tyra Banks, Reese Witherspoon, and our very own Mimi Ikonn, who all have stunning heart shaped faces.
Do’s: When choosing hairstyles for a heart shaped face, you can either choose to accentuate your face shape, or to make the bottom half of your face look wider. If you choose to accentuate your face’s tapered shape, pull your hair up into a high top knot, or space buns like below, if you’re feeling daring. A deep side part with loose curls looks super elegant and shows off that beautiful, feminine face shape as well. If you’re looking to balance your features, shoulder length hair tends to look best, as this adds volume around the bottom of your faec, creating the illusion of a wider jawline.
Don’ts: A “true” heart shaped face has a widow’s peak. If you have one, try and avoid forcing a middle part. Chances are, one side of your hair will part as you’d like it to and one side will have a mind of its own. Instead, part your hair slightly off centre to whichever side your hair naturally falls over the widow’s peak to avoid any hair woes. Also, skip out on the short bangs as these could make your chin look super narrow, and avoid short bobs.
Hairstyles for square faces
Square shaped faces are quite wide, and the forehead, cheekbones, and jawline are almost the same width. The strong jawline is a prominent feature of square shaped faces, like on Gwyneth Paltrow and Olivia Wilde, and square faced girls usually photograph well, so congrats!
Do’s: When choosing a hairstyle for a square shaped face, you can either choose to accentuate the square-ness of your face or soften your strong jawline. If you’d like to enhance your face shape, go for some blunt bangs or a short bob to really show off that strong jawline. If you’d like to de-enhance the square-ness, try some soft, wispy bangs falling to the side to create diagonal lines and soften the lines on your face, or wear your hair straight and long with some layers to draw the eyes down and add length to your face.
…Ummm. Maybe not that long.
Dont’s: Avoid overly solid bangs or blunt hairstyles, as this could accentuate the angles on your face even more. Also, any severe, slicked back looks should also be avoided, if you are trying to soften your face shape. Curls could also widen your face, so opt to wear your hair in either loose waves or straight. Here’s a great tutorial to achieving loose, boho waves:
Hairstyles for round faces
Round shaped faces are pretty much the same in width and length, with no prominent angles or corners. If you have a round face, do not fret! Round faces are usually “baby-faces,” which means you look younger, and can opt for more youthful styles. Celebs like Kirsten Dunst, Ginnifer Goodwin, and Miranda Kerr are all perfect examples of round-faced gals.
Do’s: When styling a rounder face, your main goal is to elongate the face and make it appear more oval. A quick trick to doing this is to always leave a little piece of hair untucked on one side of your face. This will visually stop the width of your face and tricks the eye into thinking your face is narrower. Try a deep side part to also create more angles to a round face, or pull your hair up into a high pony to elongate the face. If you’re feeling especially daring, a short pixie cut with volume at the top looks fabulous on round face shapes, as it adds texture and angles, without looking harsh. Check out the tutorial below to learn how to create beautiful high ponytails with extensions.
Don’ts: A common mistake for round-faced girls is to hide their face behind lots of hair. This actually ends up accentuating the wide face! Instead, go for medium length hair with long, face framing bangs, and keep the texture smooth and sleek. Avoid soft, wispy bangs, as this can further accentuate the softness of your features. Instead, opt for side swept bangs or bold, full moon bangs.
Hairstyles for long faces
The easiest way to describe a long face shape is that it’s an oval face shape…just longer. Think Sarah Jessica Parker, Liv Tyler, and Hilary Swank.
Do’s: The main goal here is to make your face appear wider than it is. So how do we achieve this? Curls! Why do you think Carrie Bradshaw always looked so fabulous? Okay, so she had a drool-worth closet filled with clothes by couture designers, but also, she let her natural curls run loose and wild, opening up her face shape.
Flat-iron waves are a great way to achieve big curls and waves for a super widening effect. Here’s a tutorial on how to achieve this. You want the widest part of your waves to hit around the area of your cheekbone, to create the illusion of a wider face. A good old-fashioned blowout is also a quick, simply way to achieve more width, like in this tutorial. Whatever hairstyle you go for, remember your looking for width rather than length.
Don’ts: Keeping with the “wider not longer” rule, avoid hair that is too far past mid-length, as this seriously lengthens the face. Also, avoid one-length hair or super sleek looks that can also make your face look longer.

Well, well, well.. What a treat we have for you guys today!
Today we’ll be learning some good old boho braiding from one of our favorite Instagram boho braid queens: @glambytoriebliss, who creates amazing boho-inspired hairstyles every day! Now a little less conversation, a little more action, please – Torie, take it from here, girl!
How to: Boho Twist Braid
New Year – New hairstyle….that’s how the saying goes, right? Well, I’ve got a quick and easy boho twist braid you can achieve in 10 mins or less that will brighten up your 2017!
Scroll down for step-by-step photo instructions, or watch the full video at the end of this post.
You can wear a hat for a more casual vibe or pop in some sparkly accessories and you’ve got a party-ready look!
Step 1: Clip-in your Luxy Hair Extensions
To begin this look, I put in my 220g Dirty Blonde Luxy Hair extensions (of course!). I already have long hair, but my Luxies give me loads of thickness and way more dimension and highlights in my hair! You can actually clearly see the difference my Luxies make in this photo:
Moving on! For this particular hair style, I didn’t need to prep my hair by curling it, so I clipped my extensions in all at the same time.
TIP FROM TORIE: If you want to curl/wave your hair, start by curling your natural hair with each weft as you work your way up your hair.
How I clip in my Luxy Hair Extensions:
First, add the first weft about 1/2 inch above the base of your hair line
Then, proceed to clip each 2 clip weft on alternating sides
Place the 3 clip wefts on a separate layer
Add in the four clip wefts
Then, clip 2 one clip wefts on each side of your head
Finally, add the last one clip weft to the crown of your head.
For step by step video and photo instructions, you can check out this blog post on how to clip in Luxy Hair extensions!
Step 2: Section Hair
Next, pull your hair over to the side and split it into 2 equal sections.
Step 3: Twist!
Take each section and twist it towards your face and then twist them around each other going towards the back of your head.
Whichever way you twist the sections individually, you must ALWAYS twist them together the opposite way! This is called a rope braid, and if you want to learn how to do it – you can check out this youtube video tutorial.
Step 4: Pancake time (Mmm…pancakes)
When you almost get to the bottom of the twist it’s time to pancake – that means, pull it apart to make it full and fluffy – just like a pancake!
To do this, pinch and pull small sections at a time working your way up and down the twist until it gets to your desired thickness. Repeat this step with the remaining section.
Step 5: Secure and Perfect
Almost done! Now that you have two super fluffy twists, secure them both together with an elastic.
Take a small section of hair, wrap it around the elastic and secure it in the back with a bobby pin.
This style is super versatile and can be worn so many different ways! I added a hat because I’m a sucker for hats, but feel free to add whatever accessory you like or keep it as-is!
And as promised, here’s the quick video showing the entire process!

If you have short hair, there may be two kinds of days:
1. Days when you’re absolutely in LOVE with your chop and you rock it like it’s nobody’s business.
2. You silently cry inside, get frustrated that you no longer can do many hairstyles, and ask yourself why you ever decided to cut your hair short.
Okay, maybe that second one was a little dramatic, but if you have short hair, you know that although it may take a shorter amount of time to style it – it’s oftentimes harder to come up with creative hairstyles because there isn’t enough length to create them.
Although a really quick and simple solution is to get clip-in hair extensions (click here to learn more about those), we also wanted to show you that there do exist hairstyles for short hair that are super simple and quick to create.
So, in today’s video we are going to be showing you 3 fun and simple hairstyles for shorter hair. Watch the video below or scroll down to see what they are.
If you have seen Elanna on our Blog before (like running late hairstyles and buzzfeed hair hacks tested), you may have noticed that she had longer and brighter blonde hair. But she recently went for the chop and went a little bit darker with her hair color.
For days when she still wants to rock longer, fuller hair, she uses her Dirty Blonde Luxy Hair extensions, and on days when she feels like rocking the chop – these are her 3 go-to hairstyles.
By the way – although some may consider Elanna’s hair ‘medium length’, all these hairstyles can definitely be created on short hair, medium hair, and even long hair.
Short Hairstyle #1
This is a trendy hairstyle that will work for any hair length, even if you have a bob. It’s great for when you want to keep the hair out of the face or want to hide your second day hair. Here are the steps:
Create a french braid going from the front top of your head, all the way down the back of your head and secure with a hair tie that matches your hair color. Fan out the braid for a bit more volume. (If you want to learn how to do a french braid, watch this YouTube tutorial).
Take a piece of hair on the right side of your hair and wrap it around the back to hide the hair elastic. Secure with 1 or 2 bobby pins.
Repeat on the other side – wrap a piece of hair around the elastic again and secure with some bobby pins.
That’s it! If you like some pieces of hair left out at the front to frame your face, feel free to do that, just like Elanna did (and always does, haha) in the video.
Short Hairstyle #2
This hairstyle works well for short hair because the ponytail is low in the back and therefore you won’t have to deal with short hairs in the back falling out.
Create a side part
Start creating a french braid down the side of your head towards the back, and tie with a small elastic.
Pull all your hair, including the braid, into a low ponytail in the back.
Take the piece that is the braid within the ponytail, and wrap it around the base of the ponytail. This adds a creative element. Don’t worry if pieces are falling out – it just adds to that messy look!
Replace the small elastic with bobby pins to secure the wrapped braid at the bottom of your ponytail.
How cute is this hairstyle?! Definitely not as boring as a regular ponytail.
Short Hairstyle #3
This super quick and easy hairstyle is so simple but yet is one of our favorites.
Create a middle part
Take a small section of the hair at the front of the face on your left side, and start twisting towards your ear.
As you twist, add small pieces of hair along the hairline.
Once you reach the back, secure these pieces with some bobby pins.
Keep this hairstyle neatly twisted or pull on the hair a little bit and leave out framing pieces at the front.
You can also do two layers of twists to give it an even more creative spin, like this:
Super cute everyday hairstyle that takes literally no time to create!

Hairstyles for school (or work) need to be quick and super easy. An extra bonus is when the hair is secured away from your face, and can last all day without you having to worry about fixing it every ten minutes.
In today’s post, we show you how to create 6 easy hairstyles that are heatless and literally take a couple of minutes to create.
We will be showing you how to do every look step by step, so if you want to know how to create them, either watch the video below or scroll down for step-by-step instructions.
#1: Rope Braid Ponytail
Start by brushing your hair to get rid of any knots and tangles. If you wear hair extensions, clip in a few wefts upside down, in order to create a high ponytail. To learn how to clip in hair extensions into a ponytail, watch this video.
Wearing hair extensions is optional, but they do add length and volume to any hairstyle. In this video, Karin is wearing a few wefts of her 220g Dirty Blonde Luxy Hair extensions for some extra thickness and highlights in her hair.
Secure the hair in a high ponytail, and add some hairspray if you’d like to keep those flyways at bay.
Now, you’re going to create a rope braid. Start by separating your ponytail in two sections, and twisting both sections in the same direction. Then, twist those two sections together in an opposite direction, to make a rope braid.
If you don’t know how to do a rope braid, check out this tutorial. Continue rope braiding all the way down. Once you’re done, secure with a hair tie and that’s it!
This look is very sleek and put-together, and is definitely more interesting than a regular ponytail.
#2: Half-up rope braids
This next hairstyle uses elements of the same rope braid, but in a slightly different way.
If you wear extensions, clip in the large wefts at the back of your head just below the crown of your head. If you don’t wear hair extensions, simply skip this step and continue onto the next step.
Begin by taking a small section of hair on one of the sides of your head, and split it in two. If you chose to wear extensions for this look, this is where you can clip in the 1 clip wefts for some extra thickness and length in the braids. Clip these wefts in the direction of where you will be braiding.
Split that section of hair in two and twist both of them in the same direction. Then, twist both of these sections in an opposite direction. Repeat the same steps on the other side and you’ll end up with two really fun looking rope braids.
All you do now is pin them together at the back with some bobby pins and you’re done! This looks beautiful and is super easy to create. If you don’t like rope braids, you can do the exact same hairstyle with a regular three strand braid or a fishtail braid.
#3 – Criss-cross hairstyle
Take two small sections from the front of your face and pull them back tightly at the back of your head. Secure with a really small elastic band.
Then you will take another two sections from the front and repeat the same steps. We’ll stop right there, but if you’d like, you can continue doing this all the way down and will end up with a cool looking braid, similar to this one.
This hairstyle is a perfect way to get the hair out of your face and although it takes literally under a minute, it looks very put-together.
#4 – Braided headband
If you have long hair, this is a really fun way to style it. Take a section of your hair behind your ear and do a regular braid all the way down. Then, pin it across your head, like a headband. Do the same thing on the other side.
If you don’t have long hair, you can wear a few wefts of extensions as a headband – we show you how to do that in this video. Tada! Easy and creative.
#5 – Dutch braid bun
This hairstyle is definitely for those who love experimenting with hairstyles and aren’t afraid to have a little fun with with their hair.
Start by sectioning the front of your hair and doing a dutch braid. If you want to learn how to create a dutch braid, check out how to do that technique here.
Secure the dutch braid with a small elastic band and pull up the hair into a ponytail. You can stop there, or go one step further and pull your hair up in a bun.
This hairstyle allows for the hair to be completely out of your face, and has a unique braid element that will make you stand out from the crowd.
#6 – The braided space buns
And of course, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to show you how to do space buns in your hair.
Pull up your hair in two high ponytails, and start doing a regular braid, which you will then pull up into a bun. Use a bunch of bobby pins to secure it in place and repeat on the other side. We love how trendy it looks, and doing braids instead of regular buns definitely spices things up even more!
